CHARITY COLLECTING BOXES
THE GENERAL 1985
Place a coin in the slot and a missile appears under the litter bin. Put the missile in
his hand and press the red button and he slowly rotates, playing with the missile like a
child with a toy. He finally shoots the missile into the litter bin, ringing a cymbal
inside.
I made him for a local peace group because I thought their stall at a local fair looked so
dowdy and depressing. |
The head and hands are made of papier mache with tissue paper and
latex, coloured with inks. This gives the skin its wrinkly bubolic texture.

COMMON GROUND CHARITY 1985
Various creatures and a human appear to walk
over a blank patch of ‘earth’ – actually a thin sheet of rubber and
sawdust, with the footprints being sucked down in sequence. It includes a window in the
side to view the workings, including two moles.
